THE SOUTH BUCKS
HONEY BEE SWARM
REPORTING SERVICE 2024

Here you will find information to enable you to volunteer and add/change personal details to be included in the 2024 South Bucks Swarm Collectors map.

FAQ's for the South Bucks swarm collecting volunteer service

If I don’t collect swarms, do I need to be this map ?

No.
This map is for people who are happy and able to be called by the public and who are available to collect honey bee swarms in South Bucks.

Is this a trial map ?

Yes, this map is still a working field trial.
We did this in 2022 at a county level and last year, 2023, for South Bucks, so we thought we’d give it a go again as it was very well received last year by swarm collectors.

Why use yet another map ?

This map operates in the same manner as the national BBKA map as used by the public for swarms reporting in the Bucks county.
The purpose of this map is to provide an additional and more localised resource to enable the public in the South Bucks area to quickly identify and report a swarm to the nearest beekeeper who has volunteered their services during the swarming season.

Which map should I be on ?

You will be on the national BBKA map if you agreed to be a swarm collector when you renewed your membership to the BBKA.
The South Bucks map is separate and you can be on both or either, so long as you are a member of the BBKA.

How does this map work ?

The map on this page illustrates how this service is intended to work.
The map contains beekeeper location details which will be shared with the public via a link on the MBBKA website.
Please enter a location or post code and then press the Search button.
The map will zoom in on that area to display any volunteer swarm collector’s in that area.
The map can be moved to reveal the location of the nearest swarm collector(s) and details of how to (and, if you choose, when) to contact them.
Pressing the map’s + and – buttons will zoom in/out to reveal other volunteer swarm collectors close by.

Can I restrict the times that people might call me ?

Yes.
On our map you can state days/times for when you might be available, as well as how far you are willing to travel. See the volunteer submission form below.

Can I change the information about me on this map ?

Yes.
You can change the information you submit, or be removed from this map, whenever you choose.

  • To be removed simply email web@mbbka.org.uk to be removed at any time you choose.
  • To change your details – simply resubmit your new details using the volunteer submission form below.

Whether you are adding, removing or changing your details please allow 36hrs for any changes to be seen on the map.

How secure are my details ?

Your data will NEVER be used for any other purpose and will NEVER be shared with any other organisation.

The purpose of this map is to
anonymise your location details but ensure your stated location is apparent on the map.
